Practical Training Modules

These training modules are run for Monash Staff and Students by Monash Animal Services

Courses Available:

Please Note: In the Practical Modules techniques will be taught using anaesthetised rats & mice. At the end of each of these modules, as required in all animal experiments involving any manipulation, the animals are humanely killed.

Administration of Substances & Blood Collection for Rats or Mice

  • Blood sampling techniques including the volumes acceptable and frequency

Rodent Anaesthesia (Pre-requiste - Administration of Substances & Blood Collection for Rats or Mice)

  • Various techniques involved in rodent anaesthesia

Surgical Techniques in Rats & Mice (Pre-requiste - Rodent Anaesthesia)

  • Making incisions,handling tissues,haemostasis
  • Wound closure,choosing needles & suture material,stitches & knots
